When young children start to make marks on paper, it means they are beginning to understand that writing is a form of communication. Children who are encouraged to do their own writing are more likely to see themselves as writers and develop a positive attitude towards writing.
Children learn to write by consistently engaging in the act of writing and experimenting with print. (Tolchinsky, 2014).
