The Magic of Legends, Fables and Fairy Tales
The 23rd of April is a symbolic date for world literature because the great writers, Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died on this day in 1616. The 23rd of April is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors, such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. To pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors on this date, UNESCO encourages everyone, and in particular young people and children, to discover the pleasures of reading.
During this scholastic year, Żabbar Primary A planned a week of activities related to reading that spanned across the whole school. These activities, which were held from Monday the 23rd of April till Friday the 27th of April involved every pupil, from the three-year-olds in the kindergarten classes to the 7 year-olds in the Year 2 classes.
All the reading initiatives held during this week featured a variety of activities that promoted literacy in an engaging and interactive way.
