The Eko Skola Committee 2016-2017
Reusing and Recycling Old Tyres
The school with the help of the Żabbar Local Council is participating in a competition organised by EWWR (European Waste Reduction Week). The intention behind this competition is to raise awareness about sustainable resource and waste management during a single week.
Our intention is to surround the school yard with used tyres, paint them and reuse them as recipients to grow herbs. This will make it possible for every class in the school to have its own area to grow herbs in.
The works on this initiative are underway. Parents who form part of the EkoSkola Committee are giving a helping hand by coming to school to paint the tyres and the art teacher Mr Roderick Camilleri is working on the designs proposed by the children. Afterwards, the children will be given the possibility to choose a favourite design and then the parents will make use of enamel paint to fill in the designs created by the children.
Bl-għajnuna tal-Kunsill Lokali ta’ Ħaż-Żabbar, l-iskola tagħna daħlet għall-kompetizzjoni tal-EWRW (European Waste Reduction Week) fejn beħsiebna nuru kif nistgħu nerġgħu nagħmlu użu minn affarijiet li kienu għar-rimi. Ser indawru l-bitħa b’tyres użati u wara li niżbgħuhom ser niżirgħu fihom ħwawar differenti. Kull klassi ser tkun responsabbli minn tyre biex b’hekk kulħadd ikollu r-roqgħa tiegħu x’jieħu ħsieb.
Ix-xogħol bħalissa jinsab għaddej. Ġenituri li jagħmlu parti mill-kumitat tal-Eko Skola qed jagħtu l-għajnuna billi jiġu l-iskola jiżbgħu t-tyres. Mill-banda l-oħra l-għalliem tal-arti s-Sur Roderick Camilleri qed jaħdem fuq disinji differenti mat-tfal. Wara li t-tfal taħt il-gwida tal-għalliem tal-arti jagħżlu d-disinn tat-tyre li jixtiequ, it-tyres ser jiġu miżbugħa b’żebgħa taż-żejt mill-ġenituri tal-kumitat tal- Eko Skola.
Making Healthy Food Choices
We eat responsibly is intended to make participants think about the decisions they take daily related to the food they eat and the impact of this decision on the environment. To consolidate this, Eko Skola committee members visited a vegetable vendor and compared imported products with local products. Local vegetables were bought and the children together with link teachers and parents discussed the food, cooked it and ate the healthy, local products to celebrate a healthy and responsible choice.
