The National Literacy Agency has launched a new scheme ‘Read at Home’. The scheme is intended for students who are struggling with the loss of their daily routine, missing friends, or feeling anxious during quarantine or long term absence from school due to sickness. The scheme is aimed at helping such students to find comfort in reading books. Primary students will have the opportunity to borrow and enjoy reading books at home while in quarantine or long term absence from school due to sickness. Each student can choose two books, one in Maltese and one in English by clicking this link:

Parents/legal guardians who would like their children to benefit from this initiative may send the below application form by email to marouska.falzon-cutajar@gov.mt or by calling on 25983304. Parents/legal guardians are asked to provide the Agency with proof of quarantine or a medical certificate, besides submitting the application form. Books will be posted or delivered free of charge in an appropriate envelope. Following the quarantine or long term absence from school period, the books are to be returned to one of the Book Return Boxes in the same envelope that they were received in. They may also be returned by post or be retained for a donation of 5 euros per book. The Book Return Box is located outside the National Literacy Agency building on Joseph Abela Scolaro Street, Ħamrun, ĦMR 1304.

The month of October makes a pink debut year after year. From pink ribbons and shirts, pink billboards and banners, they all represent one fundamental cause – promoting breast cancer awareness, educating people on risk factors and lifestyle changes, encouraging regular breast screening, and raising funds for breast cancer research as part of the Pink October initiative.

Breast cancer awareness is the first step towards preventing this disease from having irreversible consequences on one’s life. Year after year, schools team up to support this educational and fundraising campaign.

On Friday 23rd October all students/staff were requested to wear a pink shirt/T-shirt and jeans to support this event. Those who did not have pink wore a white top and added pink accessories. Below are some photos of activities done.

Lignin Stories would like to shine some light into these difficult times and so Dr Giuliana Fenech will be offering her three day storytelling workshop for parents for FREE.
​
Anyone raising 5 – 10 year old children is welcome to apply.

The workshop will be held from 27th – 29th October (4-6pm CET) via Zoom.

Kjarifikazzjonijiet

1. Studenti Vulnerabbli/F’Riskju Għoli – il-ġenituri għandhom jimlew u jiffirmaw il-Formola A fejn jiddikjaraw li l-istudenti se jibqgħu d-dar minħabba raġunijiet mediċi. Mal-formola jrid ikun hemm iċ-ċertifikat maħruġ mill-konsulent (E-certificates huma aċċettati).
2. Studenti li l-ġenituri tagħhom għażlu li jħalluhom id-dar – dawn il-ġenituri wkoll għandhom jimlew u jiffirmaw il-Formola A fejn jassumu r-responsabbiltá sħiħa tal-edukazzjoni ta’ wliedhom. Il-formola tibqa’ valida sakemm ma jkunx speċifikat xort’oħra min-naħa tal-Ministeru tal-Edukazzjoni u x-Xogħol fuq struzzjonijiet maħruġa mill-Awtoritajiet tas-Saħħa.
   Jekk wara ċertu żmien tkun trid li t-tifel/tifla tiegħek j/tirritorna fiżikament lejn l-iskola, ġentilment imla l-Formola B biex titlob li l-istudent jerġa’ jibda jattendi. Din it-talba tiġi meqjusa mill-iskola u wara tkun infurmat bil-miktub bid-data meta l-istudent ikun jista’ jibda jattendi minħabba li l-iskola tkun trid tagħmel l-arranġamenti meħtieġa qabel jirritorna l-istudent mill-ġdid minħabba ċ-ċirkostanzi attwali.
   Fil-każ li t-tifel/tifla tiegħek qed j/tattendi l-iskola u jħossu ma jiflaħx/tħossha ma tiflaħx, se tiġi segwita l-proċedura tas-soltu, jiġifieri avża lill-iskola li t-tifel/tifla mhux se j/tattendi g]ax ma jiflħx u mbagħad ibgħat iċ-Ċertifikat Mediku (MC) fejn it-tabib jikkonferma li t-tfal huma b’saħħithom (fit for school) u jistgħu jattendu l-iskola. Iċ-ċertifikat mediku għandu jintbagħat b’imejl (scan jew ritratt) jew jitqiegħed fil-kaxxa tal-ittri tal-iskola qabel ma l-istudent jattendi l-iskola tiegħu/tagħha fiżikament.
   Aħna nifhmu li dawn huma żminijiet iebsa. Madanakollu, bil-kollaborazzjoni u l-koperazzjoni ta’ kulħadd, is-saħħa u s-sigurtà tat-tfal u tal-edukaturi jistgħu jkunu mħarsa.

Dear Parent/Legal Guardian,
The new scholastic year 2020-21 has commenced on Wednesday, 7th October 2020. Due to the current pandemic circumstances, the attendance of your son/daughter lies within your responsibility. However, it is to be noted that every young person is entitled for his/her education.
Therefore, kindly follow Clarifications indicated hereunder and then please fill in Form A and send it to the respective school either by email or insert it in an envelope addressed to the Head of School and post it in the school’s letter-box, if you choose that your son/daughter benefits from online learning by not later than Friday, 16th October 2020.

Clarifications

1. Vulnerable/High Risk students – parents are to fill in and sign form A declaring that students will stay at home due to medical reasons. The form is to be accompanied by certificate from consultant (E certificates are accepted).
2. Students whose parents opt to keep students at home – Parents are also to fill in and sign form A taking full responsibility for their child’s education. The form will be valid until specified otherwise by the Ministry for Education and Employment following instructions by the Health Authorities.
   If after some time, you want your son/daughter to return physically to school, please fill in Form B to request that the student resumes attendance. This request will be considered by the school and you will be informed in writing regarding the date the student can start attending as the school needs to make the necessary arrangements before student is re-admitted due to current circumstances
   In the case that your son/daughter is attending school and has fallen ill, the usual procedure is to be followed, ie. advise school by phone that child is not attending and then send Medical Certificate (MC) where doctor confirms that child is fit for school. Due to pandemic circumstances, MC should also be sent for absence of one day sick. MC should be sent by email (scan or photo) or deposited in the school’s letter-box before student attends physically at his/her school.
   We can understand that these are difficult times. However, with the collaboration of all, the health and safety of children and educators will be safeguarded.

We would like to inform you that below you will find the official entrance and dismissal times for students according to their year group.

L-iskola tagħna sarilha r-Risk Assessment u nstabet konformi mal-protokolli tas-Saħħa pubblika għalhekk nistgħu nilqgħu l-istudenti u l-istaff għas-sena skolastika li ġejja. Grazzi lill-istaff kollu tal-iskola li ħadem qatigħ biex dan kollu jkun possibbli.

Our school has successfully passed the Risk Assessment, meaning that our school is ready to welcome all students and staff members for the coming scholastic year. Thanks to all staff members who worked very hard to make this possible.

As this is a year with extraordinary circumstances, the first day of school for children will vary according to their year group.

Kinder 2 students will be starting the scholastic year on Wednesday 7th October 2020.

Year 1 students will be starting the scholastic year on Thursday 8th October 2020.

Kinder 1 students will be starting the scholastic year on Friday 9th October 2020.

Year 2 students will be starting the scholastic year on Tuesday 13th October 2020.

From 28th September until the children start school, the educational community will continue to prepare for the new scholastic year which as we all understand is a particular one compared to the previous ones.
