Nixtiequ ngħidu prosit lil Emilia Lia klassi K1.8 (Ms J.Saliba-KGE u Ms N. Pantalleresco-LSE). Prosit ukoll lil oħtha Amaya Lia (Skola Primarja Zabbar B). Komplu aqraw u ħobbu l-kotba!
A big well done to Emilia Lia class K1.8 (Ms J.Saliba-KGE and Ms N. Pantalleresco-LSE) and to her sister Amaya Lia (Zabbar Primary B). Continue reading and loving books!
Festival of English Speaking
All students from primary upwards are invited to film themselves in a short video (1-5 minutes) delivering a speech, a poem, a monologue, etc and post it on a social media platform of their choice using the hashtag #esufestivalofspeaking.
Parents and siblings certainly can help at home – indeed it would be great if you could encourage them to do so. For those who have English as an additional language, this is a great opportunity to practice it in a non-competitive way.
This is not a competition and there are no winners – it is a celebration of the voices of young people – so there are no rules that have to be obeyed!
Here is Ms Gabrielle, our ESU Teacher explaining how our students can take part in this initiative.
Our school would be happy to upload your videos on the school website. If you are willing to take part in this initiative you can send your short video to the following email address:- smc.zabbar.pra@ilearn.edu.mt

Matul is-snin skolastiċi li għaddew, l-Iskola Primarja Żabbar A kienet tiddedika ġimgħa sħiħa ta’ attivitajiet kollha marbuta mal-kittieba, il-kotba u l-qari. Il-mira ta’ dawn l-attivitajiet kienet tkun biex jintbagħat messaġġ b’saħħtu dwar l-importanza tal-litteratura u l-ambjent letterarju li kien jifrex madwar l-iskola kollha u jinvolvi kull student mill-eta` tenera ta’ 3 snin jiġifieri li jkunu għadhom fl-ewwel sena tal-Kinder sa dawk li jkunu fit-tieni sena primarja.
Sfortunatament, din is-sena, il-pandemia tal-COVID-19 ħassret iċ-ċelebrazzjonijiet tal-Ġimgħa tal-Ktieb ġewwa l-iskola, imma intom bħala ġenituri/kuraturi tistgħu xorta tnisslu u ssaħħu l-imħabba għall-qari fit-tfal tagħkom. L-eżempju li tistgħu tagħtu intom bħala ġenituri/kuraturi jista’ jkun ix-xrara li tkebbes l-interess għall-qari fit-tfal. Meta turu lit-tfal li l-qari jfisser għalikom dik il-parti tal-ġurnata li tant tagħtikom gost, it-tfal ikunu qed jiġu esposti għal imġiba pożittiva li jkun jistgħu jikkupjaw. Il-ħin li tqattgħu taqraw mat-tfal tagħkom mhux biss ikebbes l-interess għall-qari imma jgħinhom ukoll jagħmlu l-konnessjoni bejn il-qari u l-pjaċir. Il-qari ma jibqax ifisser xi ħaġa li jridu jagħmlu bilfors, imma xi ħaġa li jagħmlu għax tagħtihom gost.

Hawn tistgħu ssibu link li teħodkom direttament f’attivitajiet ta’ Book Weeks li għaddew. Nisperaw li dawn il-memorji jqanqlu fikom ix-xewqa li taqraw aktar kotba lit-tfal jew mat-tfal tagħkom
It-Tim tal-Litteriżmu tal-Kulleġġ qiegħed ukoll joħloq materjal/attivitajiet marbuta ma’ awturi famużi ta’ kotba, poeżiji u stejjer. Ninkuraġġukom tidħlu fid-dinja ta’ dawn l-awturi għax ‘il-qari jagħtina xi mkien fejn nistgħu mmorru mingħajr ma niċċaqilqu minn fejn inkunu’. Ħudu ħsieb, oqogħdu d-dar u Jum il-Ktieb it-tajjeb lil kulħadd!
Tfal li jixtiequ jieħdu sehem fil-kompetizzjoni jistgħu jibagħtu email fuq: smc.zabbar.pra@ilearn.edu.mt
Celebrating Book Week

World Book Day is organised by UNESCO and in Malta it is celebrated on the 23rd of April. This particular day was chosen as it is a symbolic date for world literature. The great writers, Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died on this day in 1616. So, to pay tribute to books and authors, on this date everyone is encouraged to discover the pleasures of reading.
During previous scholastic years, Zabbar Primary A used to plan a full week of activities dedicated to authors, books and reading. These activities, which were aimed at sending a strong message on the importance of literacy and the literate environment spanned across the whole school and involved every pupil from the three year olds in kindergarten classes to the 7 year-olds in the year 2 classes.
Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic has spoiled our school’s book week celebrations but, as parents/carers you can still encourage your children to love books. The example of reading that you as the parent/carer set to your child may well foster his or her own interest in books. Showing your child that reading is one of the most enjoyable parts of your day will present your child with a positive behaviour that s/he can copy. Moreover, finding the time to read with your child will not only sustain her/his interest in reading but will also serve to help him/her reinforce the connection between reading and pleasure.

Click on this link to view past book week activities held at our school. We hope that this trip through memory lane will inspire you to read more books to and with your children.
The College Literacy Team has also created teaching material/activities related to famous children’s authors and books/poems/stories written by these authors. We encourage you to immerse yourselves in the worlds of these authors as “reading gives us some place to go, when we have to stay where we are.” Stay safe and Happy World Book Day!
Children can participate in the competition by sending in their preference and a short book review (why they like the book, as in the example on the slide). Entries are to be sent to: smc.zabbar.pra@ilearn.edu.mt

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak

Social story to be shared with children-The Corona Virus (COVID-19)
Dear parents and carers,
We trust that you are well. We also hope that you are doing your utmost to keep yourselves, your loved ones and the Maltese community safe. This is a very delicate moment where, as Maltese citizens we have the civic and moral duty to collaborate and follow any instructions given by authorities.
During these last few days, our academic staff have been working on the preparation of activities and resources that can be passed on to your children through our school website. We hope that these resources will help our students keep happy, busy and learning whilst our school is closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Below, you may find links to activities/resources collated by our academic staff. Please note that these activities are useful at any time during your children’s educational journey.
